To join the club you have to submit an application to
the Membership Secretary and be proposed by an existing
member.
To do this visit the club, meet the members and pick up
an application form, or contact the Membership Secretary
(see contact).
Here’s an important notice for all T15 and Dinghy
sailing Junior Members.
The Sailing
Club Committee has made some changes to the membership
categories for this year. The reason for this is over
concerns about the safety of junior members who were
using the club facilities without adequate safety cover.
There has been a number of incidents where the
possibility of a serious incident occurring has been
considered to be unacceptable. In part the reason for
this change is also the advice we have sought from our
sports governing body the RYA.
Junior members
are an important part of the club especially with the
resources of dinghies and windsurf boards that the club
has purchased and made a considerable financial
commitment towards.
Junior members
need to be supervised and an adult with responsibility
can ensure safety. The current rules say sponsored
junior member must always attend with the family or
person sponsoring them. We have not altered this but
have introduced the category of
Junior membership with adult non-sailing.
This allows a parent to be present to
ensure safety at a reduced fee. The reduced fee also has
as, one would expect, reduced entitlement to the use of
the club and water
To clarify the
different categories from training to full membership
the entitlements are listed below.
New members
taking out a membership or renewals should consider the
new category and ensure that they are happy with the
comparison/restrictions between it and the full/family
membership.
(If you renew
your membership as a Family Member this offers many
advantages. You will not have to pay a Junior Members
subscription for your child/children as this is included
in Family membership. You can attend all functions at
the Club (not just training sessions) and you are
entitled to a set of keys for the Club and you are also
entitled to attend the AGM where you can vote on all
Club matters).
We hope that
this new category, available for the first year only,
will enable juniors and their parents to experience the
thrill of sailing sport in a safe and managed
environment.
